Story

Unmasked is a design conference hosted by Circles Co. They bring together the design community and experts to talk about their journeys and host workshops.

Mission

They are hosting events for designers by designers to motivate them to create.

  • NETWORKING

Unmasked was my first project, where the target audience would be other graphic designers. It was a wreck of emotions, but it gave me the kick I needed to start looking at my designs from a third-person view.

Badge & Flyer

Sketching

Knowing that my target audience would be judging my designs, I decided to design with the experience in mind.

My idea was to create a badge and go the extra mile to create a flyer where the badge will be nested. Going the extra mile gave me the opportunity for them to unmask the paper and reveal crucial information and at the same time make the connection to the event and a moment to remember.

Solution

Minimalistic with elements slightly overlapping.

Digital

Designing something that overlaps is a lot of fun. And because this was just the extra mile I wanted to go with the design, I was free to be as creative as I could be.

And I decided to include a QR code when they "unmask" their flyer and a funny looking mask.

REMEMBER! ALWAYS spell-check!

In my second draft, I started having more fun with shapes and using overlays to my advantage. Other edits were layout modifications for a more pleasant view.

Final

I added the text, fake speakers and modified the layout. And I came to my final design.

Color

For the colors, I chose to go with a similar pallet to Circles Co., but I have made them more vibrant and added a bright red as a color that will POP out.

Branded Items

Sketching

For branded items, I went simple. I focused on making them useful for the conference and made it look right.

Digital - Final

Going digital was easy. I had all of the assets from creating the flyer, which I used in different ways to design a family of branded items.

Signage

Tote Bag and Sketchbook cover

Proof of Concept

What I learned

I learned to look at my projects objectively. From this project on, critique is one thing I love the most. It creates more work, but it makes me a better designer.
